Type a code or a product word in the HSN / SAC Code field and pick a suggestion to fill the code and GST rate.
3 sections 6 steps Alt+I↑↓Enter
How it works
- Open Create Stock Item (Alt+I).
- Choose Product (Goods) or Service. Suggestions are filtered to HSN for goods and SAC for services.
- Click the HSN / SAC Code field and start typing: a code such as 8302, or a word such as cement or consulting. After two characters a suggestion list appears.
- Each suggestion shows the code, its level (Chapter, Heading or Subheading), the official description and the GST rate.
- Use ↑ ↓ and Enter, or click a suggestion. The code, Taxability and IGST Rate fill in.
- Check the values and click Save Stock Item.
Picking the right level
A 2-digit chapter or 4-digit heading is often too broad for an invoice. Keep typing or scroll to a 6- or 8-digit code that describes your product, especially if your turnover is above ₹5 crore (6 digits required).
Tips
- If a code shows more than one rate, open the HSN Finder for the conditions (for example packaged versus loose) before choosing.
- No match? Try a simpler word (phone rather than smartphone 5G), or search by the chapter number you expect.
- Nothing is saved until you click Save, so you can try a few searches safely.
The suggestions come from the same 20,000+ code database as the Help Center's HSN Finder, updated for GST 2.0 rates.
