Open it

Press Alt+I anywhere, or click Add Stock in the quick bar. On the Inventory Items screen, Add Item or Alt+N opens the same form.

Steps

  1. Choose Product (Goods) or Service. This decides whether the code field expects an HSN or a SAC.
  2. Name and SKU / Code. The Co-Pilot Intelligence panel on the left warns at once about duplicate names, SKUs or barcodes.
  3. Under Group: pick a stock group, or leave it at Primary. Click Auto-Categorize to let Atulya AI suggest a group from the name.
  4. Product Description: prints on invoices.
  5. Opening stock: Quantity and Rate (₹). Total Value calculates.
  6. Primary Unit (for example KGS, BOX, LTR, PCS) and, if you buy and sell in different units, an Alternate Unit with the Conversion Factor.
  7. Optional details: Colour, Material, Ref Name, Barcode, Size and Brand.
  8. Pricing: Std Cost, Std Selling and M.R.P. The Co-Pilot shows your margin between cost and selling price as you type.
  9. Tax: HSN / SAC Code, Taxability (Taxable, Exempt, Nil Rated or Non-GST) and IGST Rate (CGST and SGST are half each). Start typing a code or a product word in the HSN field and pick from the suggestions; see Smart HSN suggestions.
  10. Click Save Stock Item, or Cancel (Esc).

Products versus services

A service has no quantity on hand, so skip opening stock and units other than a nominal one (for example NOS). Everything else, including SAC and rate, works the same way.

The rate you set here is what every invoice uses. If the GST rate changes by notification, edit the item once; you do not need to touch old invoices.
